I believe the technology today has the ability to prevent death and to cure most of the diseases. Although there is no official publication about preventing death but what we know is that our technology can clone organs and that means there is possibility of cloning a human. The first successful therapeutic cloning was accomplished in 2001-NOV by Advanced Cell Technology, a biotech company in Worcester,MA." (SOURCE: Religious Tolerance Website)
Although our knowledge and technologies gives us the idea that death can be avoid, and it enhance the immortality can become a reality. But this idea is doubted by religions and our social ethical. There is no scientist prove that the humanity of a clone will be the same as real person. Dead is part of our ritual that no one can escape this nature rule and our moral cannot accept the fact that people can live forever. Another reason for not making clone legal is because our living spaces will be restricted because of overloading human populations.
In South Africa context we do not have the technologies as the first world country. We are still in the progress of becoming an information society which we need to close huge gaps of our education levels. But if South Africa has the technology of preventing dead or diseases like AIDS then I believe it will stimulate the crime. Population and sources will not be balanced and it will be a war for people to vie with each other for basic needs. The availability of clone technology the recovery of human body becomes effortless and the guilt of hurting someone will become minimized. Therefore the criminals would commit crimes extremely brutal.
I Believe immortality becoming a reality in South Africa context is still a luxury and with our high criminal records there is impossible to decrease the crimes. And therefore we should exclude the new innovations of immortality.
